Designing & Dyeing with Fungi - Genspace Biomaterials Studio (Art & Design)
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
Our hands-on workshop explores the innovative intersection of nature, art, and sustainability through fungal art and dyes. Participants will learn how to work with a mycelium grow bag to create exciting forms to take home. Additionally, the workshop will introduce the process of extracting and applying natural dyes from mushrooms as a sustainable alternative to synthetic dyes. Through the workshop, attendees will learn about how fungi can be cast into different shapes and used as a natural dye. PS. we will have limited supply of natural yarn and fabric pieces to dye so we encourage you to bring your own material to dye (ie. natural fiber cloth or yarn, paper) if you're interested. If you bring your own, please pre-treat your material so it is ready to be dyed. We will allow materials up to 5" x 5" in size and up to 1 material per person to allow everybody to get a chance to naturally dye their sample using fungal dyes.

Fungal Relationships - (Mycology & Ecology)
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
In this ecological world, symbiotic relationships are the essential fabric of life. These connections are often facilitated by a Kingdom/Queendom/Kindom of organisms that are largely unseen to our naked eye. We’re talking about Fungi! Through this presentation and discussion, we'll explore aspects of ecology that are often overlooked and make some insights into how we might benefit from understanding these relationships more.
Luke Sarrantonio (He/Him) grew up in Rosendale, New York, exploring the local landscape and ecology. While attending university at SUNY ESF (college of Environmental Science and Forestry) he discovered Fungi through a general Ecology course, immediately shifting focus to absorb all he could in the field of Mycology. Since graduating in 2011, he has had a dynamic career, developing ecological and cultivation-based education opportunities, organizing an annual mushroom and arts festival (For the Love of Fungi), facilitating community projects (Eat More Mushrooms Project), creating a line of mushroom products (under the name Mycophilic), consulting for outdoor mushroom farms and managing his own in Accord, NY (at Eat Flowers Farm). Luke’s major goal is to be an accessible resource for people who want to learn more about this fascinating group of life.

MIND-BODY-CONNECTION: Medicinal Mushrooms for resiliency - (Functional mushrooms & Nootropics)
3:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Medicinal mushrooms sit at the intersection of many points of fungal intrigue. Their nutritional value (most are edible), nootropic properties (cognitive enhancement), historical and cultural reverence, even their eye-catching presence in the wild- these are all exciting points of entry into the world of fungal holistic health. In this workshop, we will explore these intersections by focusing on a small variety of common medicinal mushrooms. Participants will join us in a cordyceps tea ceremony, followed by short lectures and group discussion. We hope to help others experience and understand how these mushroom medicines can positively impact their daily lives.
Matt Kiser (He/him) is a citizen scientist mycophile based in Southwest Philadelphia. His
mycological endeavors spanning a decade have connected him to many people and places, as
well as redirecting his growth path. The bulk of his myco-experience lay in aseptic lab work,
cultivating numerous species of gourmet and medicinal mushrooms, and making concentrated
extractions of them. Selling mostly wholesale products under the name CellarDoor Fungus, he
crafts his extractions with care from spore to tincture. He brings experience from utilizing low
tech methods to the higher tech. Having attended countless classes, workshops, and mycology
convergences, he maintains that education and accessibility are the most important factors of
how mycology can make the world a better place. Recently having bought land in coastal
Maine, his long-game plans are to establish his off-grid mushroom farmstead and remediate the
land through myco-agroforesrty.

Magic Mushrooms and the Mycelial Nature of Community - (Psychedelic Panel)
5:00 PM - 6:00 PM

From fostering shared intentions and integration practices to creating spaces for growth and healing, this panel is a space to reflect on how these ancient tools help inspire us to weave deeper connections and strengthen our collective roots.

ARTISTS

Yuqi Liu
Yuqi Liu (She/Her) is a printmaker, papermaker, and book artist from Hefei, China, currently pursuing her master’s degree in Printmaking at RISD. Her practice explores unconventional materials, including handmade mushroom paper. This process involves foraging, documenting, and transforming mushrooms into a distinctive paper that reflects nature’s cycles of growth, decay, and renewal. In this ritualistic transformation, the mushroom’s original form dissolves, yet its essence is reborn within the interwoven fibers of the paper.

Margaret Marine (she/her) &
Rebecca Stuart (she/her)
We are fiber artists and fungi enthusiasts with big dreams to one day recreate the Museum of Natural History in felt. Our creations are made with 100% wool. Felting is a magical process that turns fluffy tufts of wool into sculptable material by tangling the fibers together, either with a special needle or with soapy water and agitation. Each wool strand is interlocked to create a greater whole, just like the vast network of mycelium hiding beneath the forest floor. We hope the soft, enchanting presence of our little mushrooms spark delight as you enjoy this special fungi fest.

Farah Marie Velten
Farah Marie Velten is an interdisciplinary artist originally from Sausalito California, based in Brooklyn New York. Among several analogue photographic printing processes, Farah collaborates with fungi in her inspiration and practice, celebrating their beauty and exploring how our ways of life could drastically improve if we listen more to these ancient silent teachers.
